Al holds a Master of Accountancy and Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Virginia Tech, and is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Virginia.  Prior to purchasing the firm, Al spent about fifteen years in financial accounting roles, including: Controller of a publicly-traded company; Sarbanes-Oxley controls consultant for several large publicly-traded corporations, Manager of Internal Audit for a publicly-traded company, and Assistant Commissioner of Audit Services for the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.  Prior to the financial accounting portion of his career, Al spent about ten years in the income tax accounting and research area, working with the Virginia Department of Taxation, Office of Tax Policy (drafting ruling letters and income tax regulations in state corporation income tax); and other positions.  Al began his accounting career with Price Waterhouse. 

In his spare time, Al enjoys playing the guitar; hunting; camping; hiking; weight-lifting; and spending time with his family.

Misty started “The Sage Soapbox” quite by accident. In late 2003, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and after having a craniotomy, she began to think about the shampoo she used. Was it safe? Was it going on her skin then into her bloodstream? She began examining other products her family used and she wanted to know if they were PROVEN to be safe. Well, what she found out was that many personal care products had questionable ingredients in them and numerous products had never been tested for toxicity! This rang true for the household cleaning products as well. She started telling her friends and family about her findings and she shared information that she found about safer alternatives. She felt like she was always on her soapbox about these issues, hence the name of her company, “The Sage Soapbox.”
